How to Use

Mount perch securely in chicken coop at appropriate roosting height (typically 2-4 feet off ground, depending on breed). Position so all birds can access it. Route power cord safely to outdoor-rated outlet, protecting from pecking and chewing. The perch will automatically activate when temperature reaches freezing and turn off when it warms above freezing. No manual operation needed. Ensure perch is stable and can support the weight of your flock. Clean droppings from perch regularly.

Chickens are surprisingly cold-hardy due to their insulating feathers, but their unfeathered legs and feet are vulnerable to frostbite, especially in breeds with large combs and wattles. Frostbite damage is permanent and can affect egg production and overall health. A heated perch is safer than heat lamps, which pose fire risks. The automatic thermostat prevents overheating and saves energy. Particularly valuable for bantam breeds, older birds, or those with large single combs that are more susceptible to cold injury.
