In 1983, at the corner of Idlewild Road and Highway 51 in Matthews, NC, Neighborhood Feed was begun in a 1,200 sq. ft. sheet metal building. At that point in time Neighborhood Feed specialized in livestock feed and supplies with a smattering of pet food and supplies. In October 2005, Tommy and Cookie Williams bought Neighborhood Feed from the previous owner, who had suffered a debilitating motorcycle accident. They felt this was the perfect business for them to be in, since they both have an immense love for animals. A new life began for Tommy, Cookie, and Neighborhood Feed.
The ever expanding Charlotte city limits had pushed most of the livestock out of the area, and with the economy the way it was in 2005, many horse owners were selling (or giving away) their horses. Tommy & Cookie began to change the direction of the store to dogs, cats, small pets, and wildlife enthusiasts. They continue to maintain feed and supplies for the horse enthusiasts (Cookie being a lifelong horse lover/owner).
As the business started to grow, in 2007, Tommy & Cookie moved Neighborhood Feed to its current location at 1900 Moore Road, Matthews, NC. They researched many different pet foods, animal health products, toys and supplies and have added what they feel are the best products available in today’s market. Their mission has always been to provide quality pet food, health products, and supplies at reasonable cost, to be knowledgeable about their products, and provide excellent customer service. Our customers deserve the best because they are the best!
Coming up on their 10th year in business, Tommy and Cookie, together with their amazing crew, are devoted to making sure that your pets are happy and healthy for years to come. They have a very large family (9 children) all of who share the love of animals. This has proven to be a valuable source of employees for Tommy & Cookie, almost half of their children have worked for them and several still do. They also have a dozen (for now but more are in the works) grandchildren who also pitch in to help. Neighborhood Feed is truly a family endeavor.
